What ages do you serve?
Ages 3 to 12. Preschool STEAM for 3 to 5, LEGO engineering for K to 2, coding and robotics for grades 2 to 5, and app building for grades 4 to 6. Every group is by age.
Where are your programs?
After-school classes at partner schools in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties in Oregon and Clark County in Washington. Camps at parks, libraries and community sites across the Portland metro and Southwest Washington. See this term's schools.
How do I register?
Online through enrops, the registration system Journey to STEAM uses. Pick your school, pick the class, pay by card. Confirmation is immediate.
How much does it cost?
After-school: prices are set per class and vary by program, number of sessions and school; every class shows its price on the after-school page and at checkout. Camps: prices post with the dates, with early bird pricing when registration opens. Birthday parties from $329. The enrops service fee is added at checkout.
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes. Need-based awards from the Journey to STEAM Scholarship Fund in every program. No child is turned away because of finances. Apply here.
What is your refund policy?
Full refund minus a $35 administrative fee if you cancel more than 15 days before the start date. No refunds inside 15 days or for absences. If we cancel, you get a full refund. Full policy.
Does my child need experience?
No. Every program starts from zero and builds. Beginners finish with a working project; experienced kids go further.
Who are the instructors?
Licensed teachers, retired educators and educators in training. Every one is background checked and trained in child protection and mandatory reporting. Fewer than 10% of applicants are hired. How we keep kids safe.
How big are classes?
Small and grouped by age. Preschool groups are the smallest. Grades 2 to 5 are sized to our set of Chromebooks so every kid has a device. When a class fills, a waitlist opens.
What does my child need to bring?
Nothing. We bring LEGO, robots, Chromebooks and every material.
What happens if school closes for weather?
The program is cancelled that day. Families are told by email or text as soon as we know. One weather cancellation per program is not refunded; beyond that we make every reasonable effort to reschedule or extend.
Can my child bring a support adult?
Yes. A familiar support adult is always welcome, and we confirm accommodations before the program starts.
My school doesn't have Journey to STEAM. Can we get it?
Yes. One email from a parent, principal or PTA leader starts it. Get a ready-to-send email.
