No Child Turned Away Because of Finances
The Scholarship Fund makes sliding-scale, need-based scholarships possible across every Journey to STEAM program: after-school, camps and preschool STEAM.
Families: applying takes about 5 minutes. Businesses: see sponsorship levels.
How do Journey to STEAM scholarships work?
Any family whose budget stands between their child and a Journey to STEAM program can apply. Tell us the program, the school or camp, and what your family can contribute. Awards follow each family's need, on a sliding scale. We reply by email, and your answers stay private between your family and our team.
- Pick the program your child wants: an after-school class at their school, a camp week or preschool STEAM.
- Apply online. It takes about 5 minutes.
- Hear back by email with your award and a link to register at your price.

Why we do this
Journey to STEAM offers financial aid the way a college does. We choose to carry that cost, because it matters. Families have applied from schools and communities across Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Happy Valley, Camas and Vancouver. The reasons families give most often: a single-parent household and a recent job loss. The Fund is how we say yes.
PTAs and school partners have funded seats for their own students, and parents have added gifts at checkout since 2024. Every dollar in the Fund goes to scholarships.
Fund a scholarship
Pick an amount. Each one maps to a real Journey to STEAM program cost. 100% of Scholarship Fund dollars go to need-based scholarships.
Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your receipt arrives by email right away.
Is your business or PTA ready to fund more?
Businesses sponsor the Fund from marketing, community and workforce budgets, and get real brand placement with local families. PTAs and school partners can fund seats at their own school.
Scholarship questions
Is Journey to STEAM a nonprofit?
No. Journey to STEAM is a locally owned business. We fund scholarships anyway, because a child's access to great STEAM programs should not depend on a family's budget.
Is my contribution tax-deductible?
No. Contributions to our Scholarship Fund are not tax-deductible charitable contributions.
Where does my money go?
100% of Scholarship Fund dollars go to need-based scholarships in Journey to STEAM programs. We cover every other cost.
How are families chosen?
Every family applies with the same short form. Awards follow need, on a sliding scale, and every application stays private.
Can my PTA fund seats at our school?
Yes. Email us and we set it up so the seats stay at your school.
Journey to STEAM is a locally owned business. Sponsorships and contributions to our Scholarship Fund aren't tax-deductible charitable contributions. Many businesses treat sponsorships that include advertising benefits as a marketing expense; check with your tax advisor.
